Superfoods that are used to fight arthritis have a four-fold purpose including repairing the joints, reversing inflammation, restoring function and fighting inflammation caused by an over-active immune response. Here is a look at some of the foods that are considered to be helpful for arthritis.

1. Cherries

Cherries, especially tart cherries have been shown to reduce muscle and joint pain. Drinking twenty ounces of tart cherry juice a day can help reduce inflammation. This is because cherries contain pain relieving anti-inflammatory agents called anthocyanins. Eating 1-2 handfuls of cherries a day can bring relief from gout as they help the body get rid of the uric acid that can help control the syndrome.

2. Ginger

Ginger contains volatile aromatic oils and various constituents that help stimulate blood circulation, thus bringing oxygen and nutrients to very sore joints and muscles. Ginger is also a natural pain reliever and adaptogen that fights inflammation in general.

4. Strawberries

Strawberries contain ellagic acid, a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals, swelling and inflammation. The high levels of Vitamin C in strawberries also help rebuild damaged joint tissue and reduce pain.

5. Bananas

Bananas are high in potassium and magnesium. Both minerals help alleviate the symptoms of arthritis and the demineralization of the bone that also comes with arthritic conditions. Eat bananas raw to receive the optimum nutritional benefits.

6. Organic or Wild Salmon

Salmon is a wonderful source of omega-e fatty acids. These acids are so effective at reducing inflammation and relieving pain that many people regularly eating salmon have been able to reduce their dependence on pain relieving drugs.

7. Green Tea

Green tea has many constituents with powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can help relieve and prevent arthritis and osteoarthritis. The active enzymes and micronutrients in the tea also help rebuild human culture and inhibit the chemicals and enzymes that can cause damage to the joints. It is a mild diuretic that helps rid the body of the toxins that could lead to autoimmune reponses and “water on the joints.”

8. Organic Unsweetened Peanut Butter

Peanut butter contains niacinamide, which assists with restoring the mobility of joints. Niacinamide is also a powerful pain killer that in some cases, can help people reduce their dependence on NSAIDS (non-steroidal inflammatory drugs.)
